The summer cycling season is winding down, but Volunteer opportunities are picking up here at the OCBC! We have some really fun things coming up, and we sure could use your help. You must have already taken the orientation to participate, but if you haven’t, come in any Wednesday at 7pm and get oriented!
NEOCycle is on September 8th, and is the nation’s largest urban cycling festival located at Edgewater Park just west of Downtown Cleveland in Ohio, and we will have a booth there this year! We will have info about our programs, lightly used jerseys and frames for sale, and maybe some other fun things! We will need help all day, so signup for whatever time of day suits you.
Ingenuity 2018 will take place September 28-30 at the Hamilton Collaborative in Saint Clair Superior. Ingenuity’s mission is to ignite the creative spark where the arts, science, and technology intersect. By animating Cleveland’s urban spaces with world-class, innovative experiences, Ingenuity provides a unique platform to explore the boundaries of art and technology.
We are looking for people who want to help load in and out and staff our booth, as well as creative types who might want to help us make some very useful bike accessories from recycled bike parts ahead of the event. If you are interested, let us know here!
Our winter fundraiser
Putting on an event this size takes a lot of work. With the help of our volunteers, it really lightens the load! Some of the things we will need help with are:
- Calling and following up with potential donors
- Picking up donations of food and prizes
- Advertising/dropping flyers and other info around to local businesses
If you are interested in helping in these early stages, click to let us know!
Parts room leader
With the volume of donations going up all the time, managing the flow of bicycles and salvage parts has become increasingly difficult. If you possess a good attention to detail, unending patience, good organizational practices, and 4 to 8 hours a week to give, we could really use your help in our parts room! Duties include:
- Sorting parts from the salvage room
- identifying parts that are better than what we have stored already, and re-sorting accordingly
- maintaining a usable and safe work space for all shop users
- maintain organization and cleanliness
Shop class assistants
our monthly shop class series happen the first 4 Saturdays of every month (except December) and it is the best way for anyone (especially our volunteers) to get started working on bikes. If you have taken our orientation, AND our class, and feel like you have what it takes to help others learn bicycle maintenance, let us know you want to get involved by signing up here.
If you haven’t taken the orientation, no sweat! Come see us on Wednesdays at 7pm for our orientation!
