The April 2013 Social ride to visit Cleveland Baseball history sites, with optional, afternoon bonus miles to League Park
The OCBC Social ride
has always been -- and always will be -- a short, easy, sight-seeing
tour of our near-neighborhoods' points of interest. However, we have
also always had some participants who, thought they like the "vibe" of a
social ride, want to go farther than the 3 - 6 miles that we can do
(always at the pace of the slowest riders) between 10:30am and noon.
So, with this month's ride, we will be "formally" instituting a new,
afternoon "extension ride": we'll still get anyone who wants to be back
to OCBC by noon; but those who have a hankering for mileage -- and time
in their Saturdays -- can continue on until 2pm or so with the guidance
and sight-seeing expertise of one of our long-time ride leaders (Kevin,
usually), to visit a point of interest beyond our normal reach.
This months' Social ride will travel forward in time (in the part before noon), from the venerable site of the old Municipal Stadium, to Progressive Field, to anticipate the Team's promising (?) 2013 season, with a stop at the Bike Rack, to learn about exciting new bike-to-the-game initiatives that OCBC hopes to help facilitate with Bike Cleveland this season.
For the afternoon "extension ride," those who wish can follow Kevin back in time, about 3 miles out low-traffic Payne Avenue, past the 3rd District police station (where Elliot Ness worked) to League Park at E 66th and Lexington Ave -- to celebrate the imminent restoration of this great neighborhood amenity. After a probable lunch stop at Gallucci's, the ride back to OCBC via Euclid Ave will pass in a miasma of garlic and rosemary (just watch out for broken glass in the bike lane!).
We'll have coffee and light snacks at the start at OCBC after 10am -- please bring some food to share if you can, and email if you'd like to borrow a bike for this free ride (though any donation are always appreciated!).
