Learn To Ride a Bike

We offer both group and individual lessons for learning how to ride a bike. Most people opt for one session, but if you decide you or your child need more instruction after one session, please let us know.

For the class, we have all sizes of “balance bikes” (without pedals, cranks or chains) that you can use in our parking lot, or borrow to practice with at home (with a $35 deposit).

We’ll lend you a helmet if you don’t bring one and show you how to get started with a balance bike, then how to start pedaling (and braking!) with your own bike or one of ours with pedals.

All classes are taught by Jim, our executive director. He has years of experience teaching kids and adults how to ride.

Group lessons for kids:

offered seasonally

Each lesson is between 90 min and 2 hours (same as private lessons).

We believe that group lessons are usually more effective than private lessons because kids learn by seeing how others overcome their challenges.

Students generally range in age from 3-12.

Pricing:

  • $35 per student
  • If the cost is a hardship, please ask about ways to volunteer that will be educational and fun, or about our Pay What You Can program.

Private lessons:

Each lesson is between 90 minutes and 2 hours (same a group lessons).

Pricing:

  • $90 for the first student
  • plus $15 per each additional student attending the same lesson
  • For example, a parent can schedule one lesson for two siblings to attend together. The price would be $75 plus tax.
