Beginner Bike Repair Classes

These classes are offered on a “pay what you want” donation basis.

Third Wednesday of every month, 7:00-8:00pm

The best time to learn to fix a flat is before one happens on your ride. In this single session one hour class, you’ll learn and practice tips and tricks on removing and replacing replacing a tube and tire. This skill is often referenced as a step for cyclists to feel more prepared to ride longer, farther, and in more remote locations.

  • Removing a wheel from a bike
  • Removing a tire from a wheel
  • Identifying the cause of a flat
  • Installing a replacement tube/tire

After dusting off that bike you pulled out of the garage, is it time to take it for a spin? Not just yet! In this single session, one hour class, you’ll learn how to inflate tires and briefly assess whether a bike is ready to ride.

  • Checking tire air pressure
  • Inflating tires
  • Troubleshooting basic bike chain and brake issues

In keeping with our values of Respect, Resourcefulness, and Reciprocity, the Ohio City Bicycle Co-op strives to make bike repair knowledge accessible to all. Therefore, the fee for our beginner-level classes is donation-based (“pay what you what”). Please pay whatever amount fits within your budget.

There is currently no pre-registration for these classes. Payment is accepted at the bicycle thrift store register.

Suggested contribution levels:

  • $10 – covers classroom space for one class
  • $20 – covers the instructor time for one class
  • $35 – covers the instructor time for one class and pays it forward to help keep bike repair knowledge accessible to those in the community who cannot afford to pay for it. Thank you!
