Ohio City Bicycle Co-op

OCBC is a non-profit bicycle education center with a small professional staff and many skilled volunteers.  In our well-equipped 12,000 square foot bicycle mechanic shop, OCBC upcycles donated bicycles to make them safe and reliable for community members. We teach classes on bike riding and repair skills and lead community programs such as fix-athons, bike valet parking, and group bike rides. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, OCBC also runs a bicycle thrift store for refurbished bikes, as well as new and used bicycle parts, clothing, and accessories. Through our Pay What You Can program, we provide free and affordable bicycles, repairs, and accessories (such as helmets and locks) to cyclists facing financial difficulties. 

Position Description

OCBC seeks to hire a retail and charitable programs manager at 32 hours per week to support our operations. The retail and charitable programs manager will work under the supervision of the Executive Director. Their main work tasks will include managing the bicycle thrift store, eCommerce platform, and the Pay What You Can financial assistance program. This position is permanent, and applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled. 

Retail management responsibilities include:

  • Lead sales functions in the bicycle thrift store, including ordering of inventory, merchandising, promoting, and recording of sales
  • Assist customers in the brick and mortar bicycle thrift store with shopping and test riding bicycles
  • Maintain and improve co-op sales areas and e-Commerce store
  • Manage and track bike donations
  • Manage and track inventory of bikes for sale
  • Ensure completed bikes are listed for sale
  • Receive donated items and solicit cash donations
  • Track and manage special orders from wholesalers for co-op staff and volunteers
  • Manage bicycle thrift store inventory and input purchase orders
  • Supervise sales and retail volunteers, in conjunction with volunteer coordinator
  • Manage seasonal retail staff

Charitable programming responsibilities include:

  • Manage Pay What You Can program, updating program guidelines annually
  • Schedule and attend Pay What You Can customer appointments, as needed
  • Assist Pay What You Can customers in filling out the program paperwork and making purchases
  • Arrange for volunteer and staff mechanics to complete repairs for Pay What You Can customers
  • Collect and manage data on Pay What You Can program
  • Promote Pay What You Can program and the bike co-op’s charitable mission

Additional Responsibilities

  • Communicate with the public via phone, email, and in person regarding OCBC’s services and mission
  • Assist volunteer coordinator with orientations on an as-needed basis
  • Support community programming as instructed by the Executive Director

Required Qualifications

  • Available to work 6.5 hour days, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am-5:00pm
  • Comfortable using a computer and speaking on the phone
  • Excellent writing, typing, and communication skills
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds on a regular basis
  • Adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cycling and/or bicycle maintenance and repair skills
  • Human services experience and/or retail experience including POS operations
  • Associates or bachelors degree
  • Comfortable with Google Business tools and WordPress
  • Proficiency in another language
